Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was an Danish writer.
Short Biography:
His fairy tales such as "The Ugly Duckling", "The Emperor's New Clothes", and "The Snow Queen", gained him international fame and have been translated into many languages.
Andersen was born the son of a shoemaker in Odense, Fyn. His first children's stories were published 1835.
Some are based on folklore; others are original. His other works include the novel The Improvisatore 1845, romances, and an autobiography Mit livs eventyr (The Tale of My Life).
