Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) first made his name with "scientific romances" such as The Time Machine in 1895 and The War of the Worlds in 1898.
Short Biography:
Later novels had an anti-establishment, anti-conventional humour remarkable in its day, for example Kipps in 1905 and Tono-Bungay in 1909.
His many other books include Outline of History in 1920 and The Shape of Things to Come in 1933, from which a number of his prophecies have since been fulfilled. He also wrote many short stories.
