Gulbuddin Hekmatyar (born in 1949) is a Afghani Islamic fundamentalist guerrilla leader, prime minister from 1993.
Strongly anticommunist, he resisted the takeover of Kabul by moderate mujaheddin forces in April 1992 and refused to join the interim administration, continuing to bombard the city until being driven out.
A year later he became prime minister by a peace agreement. In January 1993, though still nominally premier, he renewed his attacks on Kabul.
