Gretchen was born in Anoka which is in Minnesota State.
She finished her high school as the class valedictorian from the Anoka- Heppin School. Right from her youth days she has been a pretty figure. She even won the Miss Minnesota title in the year 1989 when she was twenty three years old. Then she went on to become the Miss America. She was a very good violin player and she played a piece composed by Saraste in her Miss America pageant.

student too and she graduated with honors degree in Sociology from the prestigious Stanford University. She married a guy named Casey Close. He was a sport agent and Ryan Howard, Josh Hamilton and Derek Jeter were a few of his clients. Gretchen and Clasey have two beautiful children, Kaia their daughter and Christian, their son.

When Gretchen started working in Fox and Friends she was just a part time anchor and worked only on Saturdays as a substitute. By September 2006 she had moved to become a full time anchor on this show along with two other co-hosts. She also represents the March of Dimes as their celebrity speaker.
