Girolamo Fracastoro Girolamo Fracastoro (c. 1478-1553) was a Italian physician known for his two medical books.

Short Biography:

His first book was written in verse, Syphilis sive morbus gallicus / Syphilis or the French disease in 1530.

It was one of the earliest texts on syphilis, a disease Fracastoro named. In a second work De contagione / On contagion in 1546, he wrote, far ahead of his time, about "seeds of contagion".
