Maurice Tannenbaum, a well-known hair stylist and an aspiring photographer of that time, spotted and clicked Gia for the first time. When she was 18 in the early 1978, Gia went to New York and instantly rose to fame in the fashion industry as a supermodel. She was cool, stylish, a
nd shrewd.
Gia Carangi featured on the cover page of "Vogue", a fashion and style magazine on 1st April 1979; Vogue Paris in April, 1979. She also featured in the American Vogue in August 1980, Italian Vogue in January 1981 and many other issues of 'Cosmopolitan' in between 1979 and 1982. However, her last feature for Cosmopolitan was a gift by Francesco Scavullo, a photographer.
There is even a song titled "Gia" about her by Fabolous Disaster and a movie called "Gia", where Angelina Jolie played the lead role, potraying Gia and her fast but tragic life.
