Gerhard Domagk Gerhard Domagk (1895-1964) was a German pathologist, discoverer of antibacterial drugs.

Short Biography:

He found that a dye substance called prontosil red contains chemicals with powerful antibacterial properties.

This became the first of the sulphonamide drugs, used to treat a wide range of conditions, including pneumonia and septic wounds.

He won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1939.
