George Cosbuc was born in September 20, 1866 in Hordou, Transilvania Romania. He is a famous Romanian poet, member of the Romanian Academy.
Biography and Career :
He had 13 brothers. His father, Sebastian Cosbuc was a Greek Catholic priest. He spent his childhood in the mythical village world and he learns to read when he was only 5 years old. When he was in the first grade he had to quit school because of medical problems. After that, in the following 2 years he studied in Valea Salautii (here he learned to speech German) and he finished the fourth grade and graduated high-school in Nasaud. Because of his severe teachers, George Cosbuc studied very hard foreign languages and classic literature, improving his all-round education.

e was in the fifth grade and then he became a member of the Virtus Romana Rediviva Lecture Society.
After he graduated high-school in May 1884, he joined the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the Hungarian University in Cluj. Here he studied Greek history, the translation and the interpretation of Cicero's writings, the Greek's and the Roman's history and rhetoric. In this period he started his collaboration with "Tribuna" magazine.
In 1884 he made his literary debut with "Filosofii si plugarii" in "Tribuna" magazine under the C. Bocsu (the anagram of his name- Cosbuc) underground name.
In November 1886 because of his illness and due to money problems, he had to quit his college studies. He continues his collaboration with "Tribuna", publishing poems like: "Atque nos", "Fata craiului din cetini", "Draga mamei", "Dragoste pãcurãreascã". He got noticed by I. Slavici, the director of this magazine who went personally to look for him and to persuade him to collaborate even more with the magazine. In the summer of 1887 the poet started to work as an editor in "Tribuna" magazine.
In August 1887 Cosbuc moved for two years to Sibiu. This period was the most fruitful period of his live, as he admitted. He had the chance to work with I. Slavici, I. Bechnitz, Septimiu Albani and he published in this time some of his best poems- "Zamfira's wedding" (Nunta Zamfirei), "Mad" (Manioasa), "Just one" (Numai una), "The miller's daughter" (Fata morarului), "Fairy's queen" (Craiasa zanelor).
After his "Sibiu" period he moved to Bucharest. Here he astonished the people from "Junimea" with his poem- "Zamfira's wedding". He published in 1890 in "Literary conversations" magazine "In the mirror" (La oglinda), "Rea de plata".
In 1893 he publishes his first poems book- "Ballads and Affaires" (Balade si idile).
In 1895 he got married with Elena and in the same year his first and only son- Alexandru was born in Craiova.
He published in 1896 his second book with poems- "Cake threads"( Fire de tort) and in 1902 his third book- "A loser's news-paper" (Ziarul unui pierde-vara). In 1915 his son Alexandru died in a car accident and Cosbuc is devastated.
In 1916 he is named member of the Romanian Academy.
He died in May 9, 1918 in Bucharest and all Romanian cultural world wept his lost.
