George Calinescu was born on June 19, 1899. He was a famous Romanian writer, literary critic and journalist.
Biography and Career :
Literary critic and historian, essayist and aesthetician, praise-writer and poet, playwright and publisher, George Calinescu is born in 19th of June, 1899, in Bucharest.
He spends his childhood in Botosani and Iasi. His first writings date in 1919. In 1921 he travels to Italy, publishes in "Roma" (1922), under the guidance of Ramiro Ortiz. George Calinescu said: "All that I have learnt in the University from Ramiro Ortiz I have learnt".
In 1926 he publishes rhymes in "Literary Universe". Eugen Lovinescu said: "Mr. Calinescu is the most brilliant mind of nowadays generation". In 1928 he clear his literary style: "That is all-I am a critic".
Critics, literary history, novel, thestre, poetry-reveal his glory period.
Works like: "The life of Mihai Eminescu"(1932), "The Book of Wedding"(1933), "The Enigma of Otilia"(1938), "The Meaning of the life and Work of Mihai Eminescu", "The life of Ion Creanga", "The History of Romanian Literature from Its Origin until Nowdays"(1941), together with literary critics and plays make him a huge creator with a brilliant potential and huge genial intellect.
Major part of his writings and novels are adopted from Balzac-inspired realism.
After he passed away from life in 1965, George Calinescu took an essential place in Romanian culture.
