George Arun (pseudonym of Gheorghe Căciulă) - poet. Also journalist. Born on March 25th 1961 in Fundata (Braşov). He studied at the Faculty of Letters at the University of Bucharest where he graduated in 1989.
Between 1985 and 1989 he was an active participant in “Universitas” Literary Circle of Bucharest, whose director was literary critic and professor Mircea Martin.
In 1984 he made his debut in print in “Flacăra” review with a selection of poems. His first book is a volume of poetry called Because In This Life / Pentru că în viaţa aceasta (Univers. 1997). He contributed poems and articles to the following literary reviews: “Amfiteatru”, “Viaţa studenţească”, “Contrapunct”, “Ramuri”, “Cuvântul”, “Luceafărul”, “Contrafort”, and to t
he daily “Curentul”. He was included in the anthology Romanian Poets of the ‘80s and ‘90s edited by Andrei Bodiu, Romulus Bucur and Georgeta Moarcăs (Paralela 45, 1999).
His first book is his only publication so far. He was awarded the following prizes: the poetry prize of “Amfiteatru” literary review (1989), the poetry prize of Sighetu-Marmaţiei Festival (1990), the award for a first publication by the Writers’ Union in Romania (1997) and “Virgil Mazilescu” Award (Corabia, 1998).
At present, the author is a journalist with the daily “Curentul” from Bucharest. His work has been reviewed by several critics, such as: Mircea Martin, loan Buduca, Radu G. Ţeposu, Al. Cistelecan, Laurenţiu Ulici, Ovid S. Crohmălniceanu, Dan Silviu Boerescu, Radu Sergiu Ruba, and others.
