Gabriella Cilmi, born 10 October 1991,Melbourne Australia. She is an Australian singer-songwriter of Italian heritage.
Cilmi lives in Melbourne, Australia with her parents Paula and Joe and her brother Joseph.
Regarding her early age, Cilmi was already developing an interest in a wide range of musical styles, including Led Zeppelin, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens etc. She also cited Suzi Quatro as being an artist with a particular influence over her. Despite her natural aptitude and great vocal talent, Cilmi was told she does not have the discipline necessary for a singing career.
Lessons to be Learned, which was Cilmi’s first album was written and recorded with hit production team Xenomania and was released in the UK in March 2008. She was compared to Amy Winehouse. Cilmi’s first
single „Sweet About me”, debuted on the UK Singles Chart that month and climbed to number six in June, three months later.
Cilmi supported Sugababes on their UK Change Tour. Not long after, she opened for James Blunt on his Australian tour, in June 2008, and also participated in the October 2008 MTV Greece concert alongside R.E.M and Kaiser Chiefs.
In January 2010, Cilmi debuted a new single called „On a Mission”, where in the UK managed to peak at number nine in Charts. In March 2010 Cimil’s second studio album was released and was called Ten.
Cimil has announced that she is working on a third studio album that will be released sometime next year. She is aiming for a change of sound, more like a pop/rock one. And she is also currently dating former child star, Lee Cormie.
As for her vocal ability, Cilmi has a Contralto vocal range and has been compared to Amy Winehouse and Anastacia because of her vocal style.
