Fumimaro Konoe (1891-1946) was a Japanese politician and prime minister. Short Biography:
Entering politics in the 1920s, Konoe was active in trying to curb the power of the army in government, and preventing an escalation of the war with China.
He was prime minister for periods in the late 1930s, but finally resigned 1941 over differences with the army. He helped to engineer the fall of the Tojo government in 1944, but committed suicide after being suspected of war crimes.
