Fulgencio Batista (1901-1973) was a Cuban dictator from 1933 to 1944 and 1952-1959, whose authoritarian methods enabled him to jail his opponents and amass a large personal fortune.

He was overthrown by rebel forces led by Fidel Castro 1959.
