Frederick Soddy (1877-1956) pioneered research into the radioactive decay of atoms and coined the term "isotope" (isotopes are atoms of the same element but of different masses). He won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1921.
Short Biography:
His works include Chemistry of the Radio-Elements 1912-1914, and The Story of Atomic Energy in 1949. After his chemical discoveries, Soddy spent some 40 years developing a theory of "energy economies", believing that as a scientist he was able to see through the errors of economists.
