She spent her childhood in River Falls and when she became a teenager she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. There, in 1992, she had her first success after became friend with the photographer Steven Meisel. He did her a photo shoot and the pictures appeared in Italian Glamour Magazine.
After that she traveled to Miami Beach, New York, Paris, London, and Milan and had several jobs as a model.
She appeared on the catwalk of great fashion designers as Givenchy, Valentino, Lagerfeld, Chanel, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, DKNY, The Gap, and Tommy Hilfiger, Anne Klein, Matthew Williamson, Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs,
Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, and Michael Kors.
She married Michael Balzary, a component of the Red Hot Chili Peppers Band, and they have a daughter, Sunny Bebop Balzary, who was born on October 26, 2005.
