Francois Rude (1784-1855) produced the low-relief scene on the Arc de Triomphe, Paris, showing the capped figure of Liberty leading the revolutionaries (1833, known as The Volunteers of 1792 or The Marseillaise).Short Biography:
Rude was a supporter of Napoleon, along with the painter David, and in 1814 both artists went into exile in Brussels for some years. Rude's other works include a bust of David in 1831 (Louvre, Paris) and the monument Napoleon Awakening to Immortality 1854 (Louvre, Paris).
