Fairuza Balk was born on May 21, 1974 in Point Reyes, California, USA to Solomon Feldthouse a traveling musician and Cathryn Balk, a belly dancer.
On splitting of her parents, her mother found some work in Vancouver, British Columbia. There Fairuza got her first acting job in a TV movie, at the age of mine. At the age of 11 Fairuza worked for The Walt Disney company. and she was chosen to play the role of Dorothy, starring in "Return to Oz" in 1985. But she has to wait for her breakout role in the "The Craft" om 1996.
Fairuza and her mother remained until 1988 then headed to Paris. At 15 years of old she starred in "Valmont" (1989). She enrolled in high school. But being shy in
class, she ended up doing courses.
She won a CableAce award as Best Actress for her role in the TV movie "Shame" (1988) and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best actress for "Gas, Food Lodging" (1992). She also starred in "The Waterboy" (1998) and "American History X" (1998).
She has nine tattoos and a nose ring. Has triangle cotton on her shoulder - because the Nazi soldiers branded the symbol on the gypsies in concentration camps. This is here way of paying respect to her culture.
Balk has continued to find roles. She co-starred in "The Island of Dr Moreau" in 1996, gave a performance as a "neo-Nazi" opposite "Edward Norton" in "American History X" in 1998, and was featured in "The Waterboy", alongside "Adam Sandler", in 1998. Since 2000, she has appeared in over half a dozen movies. She has also done voice work for animated films and video games, including "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City".
