Arthur Evelyn St. John Waugh (1903-1966) made his name with social satire, for example Decline and Fall in 1928, Vile Bodies in 1930, and The Loved One in 1948.
Short Biography:
A Roman Catholic convert from 1930, he developed a concern with such issues in Brideshead Revisited in 1945. The Ordeal of Gttbert Pinfold in 1957 is largely autobiographical.
