Euclid (c.330-c.260 BC) was a Greek mathematician, who lived at Alexandria and wrote the Stoicheial Elements in 13 books, of which nine deal with plane and solid geometry, and four with number theory.

His main work lay in the systematic arrangement of previous discoveries, based on axioms, definitions, and theorems.
Euclid's geometry texts have remained in common usage for over 2,000 years until recent times.
