Erich Raeder (1876-1960) was Chief of Staff in World War I, he became head of the navy in 1928, but was dismissed by Hitler in 1943 because of his failure to prevent Allied Arctic convoys from reaching the USSR.
Sentenced to life imprisonment at the Nuremberg Trials of war criminals, he was released on grounds of ill health in 1955.
