Eric Lobron, a famous German Chess player, was born on May 07, 1960 in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Biography and Career:
He moved to Germany with his family at the age of five and was brought up there. He became the junior champion in the year 1978. His continuing success got him the status of International Master and thereafter he won the West German Championship at Bad Neuenahr.
He won titles at Biel in 1981, Ramat Hasharon in the year of 1982 and in Manila in the year of 1982. He won at New York in the years 1983 and 1985, at Biel in 1986, at Brussels and Ter Apel in 1987. he won some other important titles. In the mean time he was also won German championship in the year 1984.
In his attempt to reach to PCA World Championship, he scored highly at th
e Groningen 1993 qualifying tournament outperforming many players like Judit Polgar, Veselin Topalov and Evgeny Bareev. He represented Germany in the Olympiads almost every times between 1980-96 except one for the event held at Dubai in the year 1986. At the Olympiad, he earned an individual bronze medal in 1990 and at the ETC, won a team bronze in 1989.
Eric Lobron had an Elo rating of 2625 in his best times. Since the mid 2000 he has tried little board chess but he continues to competes online at The Internet Chess Club as Yardbird, where he holds one of the highest blitz ratings.
He is a German chess player of American descent who has won national championships two times and is awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE.
