Elfriede Jelinek Elfriede Jelinek was born on October 20, 1946 in Murzzuschlag, Styria, Austria. She is an Austrian playwright and novelist.

Biography and Career :

After graduating Primary School, she followed the courses of the Conservatory in Viena. In 1967 she interrupted her studies because of some pshicological problems.

In 1974 she became a member of the Commits Party in Austria. She left the Party in 1991, being married to the composer Gottfried Hungsberg.

She wrote her first novel in 1968-"bubkolit", but she published it in 1797. Elfriede Jelinek's first great novel was "The Lovers" in 1975. She continued writing plays and novels. Her style was aggressive and non-conformist. Due to her controversy literature, Elfriede Jelinek is criticized by the audience, being in the center of the social and polemic debates.

In 2004, on October 7, Elfiede Jelinek was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature for "the musical course of the registers in her novels and dramas that reveals by a unique verbal passion of her own way, the absurdity and the compulsion of the social clichees".
