Dostoievski (full name Feodor Mihailovici Dostoievski) was born on October 30, 1821 in Moscow. He is one of the most important Russian writers of the 20th century.
Biography and Career :
He was the youngest son of the doctor Mihail Andreievici Dostoievski and Maria Dostoievskaia.
Between 1834-1837 attends classes of a private secondary school and during this time he has read a lot of books.
After he finished in 1843 The Military School of Enginery in Sankt Petersburg he got a job as an engineer but he quited soon and began a literature career that started with the translation into Russian of Balzac's novel "Eugenie Grandet".
His debut as a writer happened in 1846 with the story "Poor Folk" and he is named by Nekrasov "a new Gogol".
In 1848 wrote the "sentimental
novel" "White nights". One year later on the 23rd of April he went to prison with another 21 persons, members of Petrasevski's Group, in Petropavlovskaia Prison.
He was convicted to death but in the last moment the verdict is commuted in hard prison and deportation with the lost of civil rights.
During 4 years between 1850-1854 he stayed in Omsk Prison.
In 1857 he got married with Maria Dimitrievna Isaieva.
In 1862 it was printed the first edition (incomplete) of "The House of the Dead".
In 1864 the year of his brother and wife's deaths appeared "Notes from Underground". From 1866 to 1875 got printed most of his famous writings ("Crime and Punishment", "The Gambler", "The Idiot", "The Possessed", "The Adolescent") but the highest level of his career was in 1880 when appeared "The Brothers Karamazov".
He ended-up his life on the 28th of January (9th of February) 1881 at the age of 60.
