Doris Day was born on April 3, 1922. She is an American actress and singer.
Doris Day was born in the Cincinnati. She is the daughter of Alma Sophia and Wilhelm Kappelhoff. She had two brothers named Richard and Paul.
She developed an early interest in dance and in the mid-1930s formed a dance duo.
While singing with the Les Brown band and with Bob Hope. Her popularity as a radio performer and vocalist led directly to a career in films. She played a role in Romance on the High Seas
This film provided her with another hit named It's Magic. She continued to make frequently nostalgic period musicals such as Starlift, On Moonlight Bay, and many more. She won the Academy Award for Best Orig
inal Song in 1953.
She appeared in another film in 1954. It was named Young at Heart. After this film she chose not to renew her contract with Warner Brothers. She elected to work under the management of Marty Melcher.
She appeared in more dramatic roles, including her 1954 portrayal of singer Ruth Etting in Love Me or Leave Me. She was also paired with such top stars as Jack Lemmon, James Stewart and Clark Gable.
She appeared in another movie in 1956. It was named The Man Who Knew Too Much. She sang Que Sera, Sera for the movie which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and became her signature song.
Day entered her most successful phase as a film actress in 1959. She appeared in a series of romantic comedies like Pillow Talk. Day received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She played various roles in two more films named Lover Come Back in 1961 and Send Me No Flowers in 1964. Her final feature film was released in 1968. It was named With Six You Get Eggroll.
Later she also hosted The Doris Day Show in television in 1968.
Day released another album in 1992. This album gained a lot of popularity and made a place in the top British charts. She recorded a commentary for the release of the fifth season of her TV show in 2006.

I can easily see why she was famous. First of all, she was pretty. Her first films epitomized her as the gorgeous "girl next door." She was wholesome, attractive, and the kind of girl that you would want to bring home to meet the family. When America was a better place to live than it is now, she represented the goodness that was the ideal.

I must honestly admit that I never understood the Doris Day phenomen. To me she always seemed quite plain. She might have been funny, sometimes, but her star status was always a question to me.
