Biography and Career:

Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946. She is an American song writer and actor.

Dolly Parton was born in Sevierville, Tennessee. She has twelve siblings. She lived with her family in a rustic, dilapidated one-room cabin in Locust Ridge, Tennessee.
She started her career when she was young. She started singing on local radio and television programs in the East Tennessee area. She appeared on The Cas Walker Show when she was just 9. At thirteen, she was recording on a small Louisiana label, Goldband Records. Parton moved to Nashville taking many traditional elements of folklore and popular music from East Tennessee with her.

She had success as a songwriter, writing two top ten hits in 196 7. The song was named Fuel to the Flame. She also wrote a minor chart hit for Hank Williams Jr. In 1965 she signed with Monument Records where she was initially pitched as a bubblegum pop singer earning only one national-chart single named Happy, Happy Birthday Baby.

She married Carl Thomas Dean in 1966 in Georgia. They met the first time on her first day in Nashville.

She was requested to join a weekly country-music, syndicated-television program in 1967. The show was named The Porter Wagoner Show and was hosted by Porter Wagoner.

By 1970, both Parton and Wagoner were frustrated due to her unsuccessful solo songs. Porter made her sing a song by Jimmie Rodgers named Mule Skinner Blues. The record shot to number three on the charts. For the next two years, she had a number of solo hits.

Parton re-recorded more songs for her album in 1995. She won the Country Music Association's Vocal Event of the Year Award.

Parton released her first single from her own record company in 2007 which eventually hit the Billboard charts. Her latest studio album was released in February 2008. It reached number two on the country charts.

In 2009 she released an album named Dolly which features 99 songs and spans most of her career. She is currently working on an album, Dance with Dolly, which should be released very soon.
