Dirk Bogarde, stage-name of Derek van den Bogaerde, was a British film actor.

He appeared in comedies and adventure films such as "Doctor in the House" in 1954 and "Campbell's Kingdom" in 1957, before acquiring international recognition for complex roles in films such as "The Servant" in 1963.
He distinguished himself in films made with director Joseph Losey, such as "Accident" in 1967, and with Luchino Visconti in "Death in Venice" in 1971.
He has also written autobiographical books and novels, for example "A Postillion Struck by Lightning" in 1977, "Snakes and Ladders" in 1978, "Orderly Man" in 1983, and "Backcloth" in 1986.
