Dennis Hopper was born in Dodge City, Kansas. He is the son of Majorie Mae and Jay Millard Hopper. He studied at Wooster School, Danbury, Connecticut. He then studied at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego and Actors Studio in New York City.
He started his career in 1955 with appearing in the television series Medic. The series was directed by Richard Boone. He had an uncredited role in 1954 in Johnny Guitar. He then appeared in two more films in 1955 and 1956. The films were named Rebel Without a Cause and Giant. He also appeared in Cheyenne in 1956 in the episode named Quicksand. He played the role of a young gunfighter.
