Denise Welch was born in County Durham. She is the daughter of Vinn and Ann Ridley. She studied at Bygate School and Blackfyne Grammar School. Later she went to Mountview Theater School in London and graduated in 1979.
She started her career in 1983. She started performing in theaters in 1983. She went on stage at the Astoria Theater. Later she joined the Live Theater Company in Newcastle and played various roles in plays. She also played a role in the popular musical Grease in 1984. She started her television career in 1981 with appearing in Barriers for the first time on television. She appeared in many television series in
more years.
Welch also starred in television series Byker Groove from 1990 to 1991 and many more like A Kind of Living in 1988 and The Glass Virgin in 1995.
She appeared in ITV's series Soldier Soldier in 1995. With her role in this series she gained a lot of popularity and also released a song in the same year which was a hit as well. Welch also gained a lot of popularity with her starring in Coronation Street in 1997. She played the role of Natalie Horrocks. She left the serial in 2000 due to her pregnancy and family life. She guest starred in many various ITV series in 2002, 2004 and many other times.
Welch married twice. She married David Easter in 1985 but divorced in 1988. She married Tim Healy in London in 1998. They have two children named Timothy and Louis Vincent.
