Deepika Padukone was born on January 5, 1986, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her father, Prakash Padukone, is a famous Indian tennis player. While she was less than a year age, she was brought to Bangalore and there she grew up with her sister Anisha.
Young Deepika was interested in sports and played tennis, basketball, baseball and throwball. She was also a talented badminton player in her schooldays and participated in state level competitions when she was in the 10th standard.
When Deepika was studying at the Mount Carmel College, she developed interests in modeling. Soon, she was seen in ads for brand names like Limca and Close-Up in India. Later on, Maybel
line selected her as an international spokes-model. Apart from this, she also became the brand ambassador for Jewels of India. These works brought Deepika the Kingfisher Fashion Awards’ Model of the Year Award in 2006.
Her modeling career kept on growing and she appeared for a swimsuit calendar for Kingfisher and bagged a couple of awards at the Idea Zee Fashion Awards. She was also selected as the face for a number of brands like Kingfisher Airlines, Levi Strauss and Tissot SA.
Deepika Padukone stepped into the world of acting with the music video “Naam hai tera” by Himesh Reshammiya. Her first movie was Aishwarya (2006).
Her first Bollywood movie was Om Shanti Om (2007) in which she acted in the lead female role opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The movie received huge fanfare and her awards from Filmfares to IIFA. Her next movie Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) received good response. She also acted in the movie Chandni Chowk To China.
Deepika also appeared on a couple of episodes of the dance reality show So You Think You Can Dance.
