Deanna Durbin was born on December 4, 1921. She is a singer and actress.
Deanna Durbin is popularly known by her stage name. She was born in Manitoba, Canada. She is the daughter of James and Ada Durbin. Her family moved to Southern California in 1923 and as a young girl she spent most of her time there. She got her stage name due to her association with Universal Studios in 1936.
She started her career in 1935 with MGM and she starred in her first film in 1936. The film was named Every Sunday. After this film she signed another contract with Universal Studios for the production of her first feature film named Three Smart Girls in the same year. The film was an instant hit and with the performance
she received an Academy Juvenile Award.
When she was only 15, she auditioned for the voice of Snow White in the Disney film but was rejected. Durbin had an amazing voice and she performed from pop music to opera. A few books were published from 1941 to 1947 in which Durbin was the heroine. She also sang a few songs for Decca Records between 1936 and 1947. Durbin worked with producer Joe Pasternak and director Henry Koster but stopped when the producer left Universal studios to join MGM.
Durbin married Vaughal Paul in 1941 but divorced in 1943. She married Felix Jackson and had a daughter named Jessica but they had a divorce in 1949. She decided to go solo and produced a few songs. She made her own film in 1944. It was named cant help singing. Durbin starred in many other hit films like The Amazing Mrs. Holiday in 1943 and many more. Durbin decided to retire from the film industry as she rejected requests from other companies. She had the biggest fan base during the time she performed.
Durbin married Charles David in 1950 and had two children, Jessica from her previous marriage and Peter with David. She rejected a lot of offers to sing again in 1950s from MGM and many other companies. She just did one interview in 1983 but with the rights of maintaining her rights of privacy.
