David has a high voice with modal register which is a trademark for his large range and his ability to sing in high tessitura for long periods. His live recordings with the band or solo, show that he is gifted with more than a three octave voice range. In the first verse of the song Just As I Am he sings an E2.This is confirmed due to his live performances. In his When God Dips His Love In My Heart he sings an F5 and amazingly he maintains it for a while easily. During his performances with his band Gaither his high tessitura was used and tested often. David was introduced to Bill Gaither by Mark Lowry who was the baritone of the band. While performing Let Freedom Ring David easily sings at C5 in loud voice. David re joined the Gaither Vocal band in early 2009 and shares the tenor with another member of the band, Wes Hampton.
