David Gilmour was born on 6th March 1946. He is an English musician and a guitarist, lead singer and songwriter.
David Gilmour was born in Cambridge, England. His father was a lecturer and his mother was a teacher and film editor. David went to The Perse School in Cambridge. David was a student of modern languages upto A levels. He was fond of playing guitars since a kid and played it during his lunch breaks in school. Gilmour went to Spain and France with friends to play but were unsuccessful and drove back a van to UK in 1967.
Gilmour married Ginger Hasenbein and had four children. He re married Polly Samson in 1994 and he had 4 children. Gilmour is associated with various charity organizations.
He sold his house in Little Venice and gave the money to a charity for funds for housing project for the homeless. He also gave different funds to various charity organizations at different times.
Gilmour joined the band Pink Floyd in 1968 on the request of Nick Mason. Gilmour used to fill in for Syd Barretts guitars. He used to play as a lead guitarist and vocalist with Roger Waters and Richard Wright but after success Roger Waters gained control of the band which led to problems between Gilmour and Waters. Gilmour decided to play solo and released his first solo album in 1978 and then his second album in 1984. Gilmour played guitars with various artists. In 1986 when Water left the band, Gilmour and Richard Wright decided to continue. Gilmour took control of the band and released some songs with Mason and Richard Wright. Wright rejoined the band for a long world tour of the band and helped in producing an album in 1994.
Gilmour is also an experienced pilot. He had a company named Intrepid Aviation in which got a number of historical aircrafts but he later sold the company. Gilmour has also won various awards at different times.
