Biography and Career
At a young age, Coverdale developed a deep interest in music. He was looking for the right opportunity. In 1974, Coverdale landed the auditon and ultimately got the dream position of the new lead singer of the famous Deep Purple hard rock band.
In April 1974 the band released the album Burn which recorded a astounding million albums in sales and reached double platinum status in both United States and the UK.
The same year, Stormbringer album achieved gold status in both countries. During 1975, the band released Come Taste the Band which notched up only silver status and in March 1976, the band eventually ended.
After he left Deep Purple, Coverdal
e relocated to West Germany and soon formed Whitesnake.
In the late seventies and early part of nineteen eighties, WhiteSnake achieved great popularity in UK and Europe with its well received blues-rock albums. However, the band had only lukewarm response in America.
In order to win over the US fans, Coverdale worked hard and during 1987 and 1988 America was finally won over with the multi platinum self titled Whitesnake album. The album success was propelled by the bit singles 'Here I go Again. Coverdale kept up the momentum throughout the late 80s up to early 90s.
In early 1991, Coverdale disbanded Whitesnake 'indefinitely' only to be re-born in 1993 with the release of Coverdale –Page album with Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame. In 2002 Whitesnake was reformed for an American and European tour. From 2008 and 2009, Whitesnake had a new line up and completed successful European and American tours.
