Being the son of director John Huston, he has some very famous relatives. He is the half-brother of actress Anjelica Huston and of screenwriter Tony Huston. He is also brother-in-law of Pat Delaney, grandson of Walter Huston and son of Zoe Sallis.
He has played the love interests for real-life best friends Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman. In 21 Grams, he plays Watts' beloved husband whose loss (along with their daughters) destroys her life, and in Birth, he plays Kidman's fiance, who becomes jealous when he vies for her attention with a 10 year old boy who claims to be her deceased husband.
In The Aviator, he works with Cate Blanchett, who plays Katharine Hepburn, star of his
father's film The African Queen. Blanchett and Holm also appeared together in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which was previously adapted for television, and had featured his father as Gandalf.

His father John Huston produced Danny's first feature as a director, an adaptation of Thornton Wilder's last novel Theophilus North, called Mr. North. In 1995's Leaving Las Vegas, he moved in front of the camera and has since acted in over 20 films. He gave his breakthrough acting performance in the independent film Ivansxtc. The Bernard Rose feature was nominated for several Independent Spirit Awards in 2003, including Best Male Performance for Huston's portrayal of Hollywood talent agent Ivan Beckman. Huston has worked nonstop as an actor ever since.
