Aiello was born in Manhattan to Italian parents. His father deserted his mother and his siblings along with him after his mother went blind. For all through his life he had hated his father for this and reconciled years after in 1993. He went to James Monroe High School . He had done many different jobs including serving in U.S Army, working in night club and for bus workers.
He started his film career in the 1970s. He acted with Robert DeNiro. in the 1973 film Bang the Drum Slowly. He worked in the film The Godfather Part II. He worked with DeNiro for 1984 fil
