Biography and Career:
Daddy Yankee was born Ramon Ayala on 3rd February 1976 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is a popular Reggaeton ( a form of Spanish Reggae music) artist.
Daddy Yankee the Popular Reggaeton artist started singing and rhyming as a young 13 year old boy "Ramon Ayala". Growing up in a small Puerto Ricon town, Ayala took elements from different musical genres and evolved an original style and popularized Reggaeton music.
When Ayala was 18 years old, his first album No Mercy was produced. Though the production did not do well commercially, Ayala continued to work within the genre. From 2000 onwards, Ayala focused on his solo career and released El Cartel . In 2001, he followed it up with EL Cartel II as its
direct sequel.
It was not until the release of El Cangri.com that his fame reached the shores of United States. In 2002, El Cangri.com produced by VI Music had successful plays in New York and Miami Radio Stations and climbed to no. 43 on Bill Board's Top Latin Album Charts. In 2003, VI Music produced Los Homerun-es, tasted success amid a flurry of significant releases by other reggaeton artists. With this success, Ayala finally made the crossover to the United States market.
The highly anticipated next album of Ayala Barrio Fino was released in July 2004 by El Cartel Records and VI Music. This album became one of the best full-length albums of the Reggaeton genre. Barrio Fino sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone and tasted phenomenal success in Latin America and worldwide.
The success of Barrio Fino propelled Ayala to global fame and made him a much recognized face within the music industry. In 2005, Ayala won several International Awards including the Reggaeton Album of the Year for Barrio Fino. The successful single "Gasolina" received nominations in the Latin Grammy and MTV video music awards. In June 2007, El Cartel : The Big Boss was released and was the top selling Latin Music album in 2007.
