Chris Martin (full name Christopher John Martin) was born on March 2, 1977, in Exeter, Devon, England. He studied at the University College London. While at the university, Martin and his friends embarked on their musical endeavour which would be later on known as Coldplay.
Initially, Martin’s band performed under the names of Pectoralz and Starfish. Later on they changed the name to Coldplay and also recorded two EPs. They were picked by record label Fierce Panda and, thereafter, they gained the interest of Parlaphone Records.
Under contract with Parlaphone Records, Coldplay launched their debut album in 2000 under the name of “Parachutes”. The track “Yellow” from the album made the name of Coldplay famous within a short time and its music video particularly highlighted Chris Marti
n.
Their second album, “A Rush of Blood to the Head” of 2002 spawned the band’s most recognized song, “Clocks”. After that, Martin and his band began touring several countries for more than a year. To add to their honours, Coldplay was titled as the Band of the Year in 2003 by Rolling Stone. They also bagged a Grammy for the Best Alternative Music Album in the same year.
Chris Martin worked hard for the next album “X&Y”, but it did not receive equal enthusiasm from the public after its release in 2005. But his fans were not displeased altogether.
Chris Martin had already married Gwyneth Paltrow by this time and the couple gave birth to their first child during the summer of 2005.
During the next couple of years, Chris Martin endeavoured on some solo works. He also worked as a producer for hip-hop music and gave music for Jay-Z’s album, “Kingdom Come”. As a producer he worked on “Homecoming” with Kanye West.
He had his second child with Paltrow in 2006.
At the same time, Chris Martin was giving hard efforts for Coldplay’s next album, “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends”. The album gave back the respect Coldplay had lost from critics.
