Chopin (full name Frederic François Chopin) was born on March 1, 1810 in Zelazowa Wola, Poland. He was a famous Polish pianist and composer.

Biography and Career :

He was son of Tekla Justyna Krzyzanowska, a Polish mother, and Nicolas Chopin, a French expatriate father.

In October 1810 his family moved to Warsaw and there he had the reputation of “the second Mozart”.

When he was 7 years old he was already the author of two polonaises, one in G minor and the other in B-flat major. He began to give public charity concerts and performed his first piano concert when he was 8.

Wojciech Zywny was his teacher from 1816 to 1822. Wilhelm Würfel was the one who supervised him from 1822.

Between 1823-1826 Chopin attended the Warsaw High-school, where his father was a professo r.

In the autumn of 1826, he began studying music theory, figured bass, and composition with Józef Elsner at the Warsaw Conservatory.
Chopin's first love was Konstancja Gładkowska in 1829 and that year he also visited Vienna.

In December in Warsaw he had the premiere of his Piano Concerto in F minor at the Merchants' Club and on the 17th of March 1830 the concert in E minor at the National Theatre. That year he visited again Vienna and performed there the two concerts.

Chopin visited Munich and Stuttgart and arrived in Paris in October. He had many friens there and among them were: Friedrich Kalkbrenner, Ferdinand Hiller and Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, Felix Mendelssohn, Charles-Valentin Alkan, and Vincenzo Bellini.

His genius was recognized and admired and performed many concerts.
In 1835 Chopin visited his family in Karlsbad, then returned to Paris and Leipzig where he met Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck. On his way back he had a bronchial attack and some newspapers said he had passed away.
One year later, in 1835 he engaged Maria Wodzińska, who was 17 and came from Poland. The next year the engage was broken by the girl's family.

At a party hosted by Countess Marie d'Agoult Chopin met George Sand. Even if he didn't liked her at first they ended having a relationship.

In the winter of 1838 Chopin's health got worst and so they went to Barcelona, and then to Marseille.

The composer spent the years between 1839-1843 at Sand's estate in Nohant and there wrote many works.

When he returned to Paris in 1839 he met the pianist and composer Ignaz Moscheles and in 1847 his relationship with Sand was broken.

In 1848 Chopin performed his last concert in Paris, and also visited England and Scotland with Jane Stirling.

He passed away on the 17th of October 1849 in the Place Vendome and was burried at Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris.
