Biography and Career:
Starred in the 1964 TV series as herself in "Broadway Goes Latin" Chi Chi Navarro was introduced as the "Latin American Bombshell" performing hundreds of gigs in all the Great Hotels in the Catskill Mountains in New York. Some of those hotels were "The Browns Hotel”, The Grossingers,The Raleigh Hotel, The Kutsher's, The Pines Hotel, among many o
thers. Performed at the famous "Apollo Theatre in New York City, Rodney Dangerfields in NYC and many more locations in New York and throughout the United States.
Chi Chi also acted on Broadway in the famous play "The Ritz" as well as many off broadway plays. She was the star for the Latin Pavilion at the Worlds Fair in New York in 1964. She has performed with the greatest bands Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Edmundo Ros, Johnny Pacheco,Joe Cuba, Machito, Tito Rodriguez, Count Basie and his orchestra, Randy Carlos and his orchestra. Performing before with Jerry Lewis, Sammy Davis Jr.and many many more great performers and famous places like "The Browns Hotel", "The Sands Hotel" " in Las Vegas, Nevada, The Latin Quarters in NYC, the Palladium to mention only a few.
Often the comedians that performed at the same shows would insist on going after her performance and not before because of the way she could light up the audience, the audience would just come to life. These are only a few of the many many tributes to her. Although Chi Chi Navarro never broke a recording she is well known in the industry and highly respected as a skilled performer and actress. She was the Latin version of people like Judy Garland & Lucille Ball. She was well known through out Europe, South America and the East Coast of United States as a Singer-Entertainer.
Chi Chi was 1st married to James V. LaGuardia of New York, daughters: Maureen LaGuardia-Ferrera, Rozanne LaGuardia-Stine, Suzette LaGuardia-Girdner. Later married to the late Martin Owrutzky, famously known as Marty Arret the Latin Dancer, Dance Instructor & owner of the Latin Quarters and then later the Manhattan's Broadway 96 Club in NYC, then her 3rd husband was Joseph Calderini. There is so much more I would like to write about this Puerto Rican born vivacious woman.
She is still very active in her craft as an actress and I hope to see her in many more of her pursuits in acting and performing. She is truly a unique and very loved personality.
