Charles Wheatstone Charles Wheatstone (1802-1875) William Cooke, he patented a fail-way telegraph in 1837, and, developing an idea of Samuel Christie's, devised the Wheatstone bridge, an electrical network for measuring resistance.

Originally a musical-instrument maker, he invented the harmonica and the concertina.
