Biography and Career:
Carlo Ponti was an Italian film producer and was born on 11 December 1912.
Ponti started off his career in the field of Law along with hae father after completing his Law studies in the University of Milan. He later got involved in film business and then attempted to start a film industry in 1940.
His first film named Piccolo Mondo Antico dealt with the Italian struggle against the Austrians for the inclusion of northeastern Italy into the Kingdom of Italy during the Risorgimento.The film proved to be a huge success.
Ponti accepted an offer from Lux Film company in Rome in 1941, where he pro
duced a series of commercially successful films featuring the comedian Toti². He produced his most popular and financially successful film, David Lean's Doctor Zhivago in 1965. He subsequently produced three notable films with Michelangelo Antonioni, Blowup in 1966, Zabriskie Point in 1970 and The Passenger in 1974.
