Buffy Sainte-Marie was born on February 20, 1941 in Piapot Reserve, Saskatchewan, Canada. She is a famous musician, composer, visual artist, pacifist, educator and social activist.
She was orphaned and later adopted and grew up in Maine and with parents Albert and Winifred Sainte-Marie, who were close in relation to her real parents. She holds degrees in teaching and Oriental Philosophy from University of Massachusetts and did her Ph.D in Fine Arts. In 1968 she married the surfing teacher Dewain Bugbee of Hawaii. She also holds an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Regina in Canada.
In her early age she used to play piano and guitar. She gave many hot albums including, "It's My Way", "Many a Mile", "Little Wheel Spin and Spin", "Fire & Fleet & Candlelight", "Moonshot
" and "Running For the Drum".
Why is she famous?
She is famous for being inducted in the "Juno Hall of Fame" and also won a Gemini Award in 1997 for the Canadian TV special Buffy Sainte-Marie: "Up Where We Belong".
