Black Sabbath is an English rock band. It was originally named Earth. The band was formed in 1968, Birmingham. The band comprised of lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, Bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. Black Sabbath is a heavy blues-rock band with occult- and horror-inspired lyrics. Black Sabbath released their debut album also called Black Sabbath on Friday the 13th of February 1970 in the United Kingdom. The album is often hailed as one of the first heavy metal albums.

Why is it famous?

The band is famous for being the most influential heavy metal bands of all time. They released multiple gold and platinum records in the 1970s. They have sold over fifteen million records in the United States alone.

Black Sabbath helped define the genr e with releases such as 1970's quadruple-platinum Paranoid. They were ranked number one on MTV's Greatest Metal Bands countdown. They released a live album in 1997, Reunion, which brought forth the Grammy Award-winning single "Iron Man" in 2000, thirty years after the song's initial release on the album Paranoid.
