Billy Grammer was born on August 28, 1925 in Benton, Illinois, United States. He is a famous country music singer and guitar player. Billy was the eldest of 13 children of a musician father who used to play the violin and trumpet.
Billy has served in the US Army in World War II, and after his disposal from there he was an apprentice toolmaker at the Washington Naval gun factory at Shop #20. Billy married Ruth Burzynskii in 1944. His first was "Gotta Travel On", written by Paul Clayton and recorded at Monument Records in Nashville, Tennessee, which was a # 4 on the US Pop singles chart.
Later his band was named after this hit song, "The Travel On Boys".
On March 16, 1974 Grammer also delivered the invocation for the Grand Ole Opry House opening.
Billy was inducted into the Illinois
Country Music "Hall of Fame".
