Biography and Career:
Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd President of United States, his period of presidency started at 1889 and ended at 1893. He became a prominent state politician, when he migrated to Indianapolis Indiana. That time he was 21 years old. When American Civil war took place, Harrison ordained as a Brigadier General in the XX Corps (army of Cumberland). He was chosen as President in 1888, when he defeated the Grover Cleveland. He is the first president who is chosen as president from Indiana.
William Henry Harrison was the grandfather of Harrison. He was seven years old when his grandfather (William Henry Harrison) was elected as Pre
sident, but he did not appear in inauguration.
Harrison got his primary education in one room school located near his house. During college studies a tutor was provided to help him in his studies. In 1847 Harrison and his cute brother Irwin got admission in Farmer's College, situated near Cincinnati Ohio. After two years he left college and went to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was fellow member of Phi Delta Theta. He completed his graduation in 1852.
Benjamin Harrison was the first person of the University Club, a private gentlemen's club, Phi Delta Theta Alumni Club of Indianapolis, the fraternity club, elected as president. In 1858 he started law partnership with Wallace and opened an office with name Wallace and Harrison. In 1860 he was the Republican candidate for the position of reporter of the Indiana Supreme Court and this was his first entrance into politics.
He got married in 1853 and came back to his father's farm to complete his law studies. When civil war broke out, Harrison wanted to join Union Army but due to some reasons he did not join. At the time when Harrison was in Army, was reelected as reporter of the Supreme Court of Indiana and worked four years more but politically he was little bit weak.
Harrison started going to office on Monday, March 4 in 1889. There was stormy weather in Washington D.C when his inauguration ceremony took place.
He was died on Wednesday, March 13 in 1901, due to the diseases influenza and pneumonia. That time his age was 67.
