Bebel Gilberto (birth name Isabel Gilberto) was born on May 12, 1966 in New York City, New York, USA. She is a famous singer and songwriter.

Biography and Career :

Joao Gilberto and Miucha are her parents' names. Her father has a daughter, Luisa Carolina, with another woman, Claudia Faissol. Her grandparents are Maria Amelia Buarque de Hollanda and Sergio Buarque de Holanda.

She sings Bossa Nova, Brazilian pop, Musica Popular Brasileira, Samba and Latin pop. Her mother released an album in 1973 and she sang on it. After two years she sang at the Jazz festival in New York's Carnegie Hall. She was one of the people who founded 'Circo Voador'. In 1986 she released her debut album called "Bebel Gilberto". Between 1991 and 2007 she released another four albums: "De Tarde, Vendo O Mar", "Tanto Tempo", "Bebel Gilberto" and "Momento". All of her albums were very successful and she received nominations at the Latin Grammy awards, World Music Grammy and other award shows. She has conquered the hearts of millions and her fans are all over the world. In 1982 she acted in "Pirlimpimpim" and four years later in "A Cor do seu Destino" and "Opera do Malandro". In 1991 she went to New York and decided to remain there. She had a performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in a special tribute to Brazilian star Carmen Miranda.

"Technova" and "Batucada" are two of her most successful songs. She is still living and working in New York (2007) and her career will continue because music her lifetime passion and love.
