Aristoteles Onassis was born on 15th January 1906 in Smyrna, Ottoman Empire. He was the very famous Greek shipping magnate of the 20th century.

Aristoteles Onassis was born in Karatass a suburb of Smyrna, Ottoman Empire. He is the son of Socrates and Penelope Onassis. His father had a fleet of 10 ships with 40 sailors. When he was 16 years old he was able to speak four languages: Spanish, Turkish, English and Greek. He left his home and shifted to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1923 with just $60 in his pocket. He first worked with British United River Plate Telephone Company.
He started importing tobacco from Turkey with the help of his father Socrates. He traded with Greece US$2,800,000 just four years after his arrival in Argentina in 1928. The Greek go
vernment announced a 1000% increase in tax of imported products from countries with no trade agreement with their country in 1929.
He was investigated by the FBI for fraud against the U.S. government in 1954. He was charged for violating the citizenship condition of the shipping laws which require that all ships displaying the U.S. flag be owned by U.S. citizens. Since he was guilty he had to $7 million. In 1957 he founded the Olympic Airways which today known as Olympic Air, the Greek national carrier.
He made huge profits when the big petroleum companies like Mobil, Socony, and Texaco signed long-term contracts at fixed prices with him for the use of his fleet. His fleet her Panamanian flags and sailed tax-free while operating at low cost.
He was more successful in whale fishing off the Peruvian coast from 1950 to 1956. He made a net profit of US$4.5 million.
He has one sister Artemis Garofalidi and two step sisters Kalliroi and Merope.
