Aristide Joseph Bonaventure Maillol (1861-1944) was a French artist who turned to sculpture in the 1890s.
Short Biography:
His work is devoted to the human figure, particularly the female nude. It shews the influence of classical Greek art, but tends towards simplified rounded forms.
Maillol was influenced by the Nahis (followers of Gauguin). A typical example of his work is Fame for the Szanne monument in Aix-en-Provence.
