Archie Manning was born on 19th May 1949 in Drew, Mississippi. He is a former American football quarterback in the National Football League.
Biography and Career:
Archie Manning is the son of Elisha Archie Manning Jr., also known as "Buddy". Archie Manning was very interested in football, basketball, baseball, and track events. He was inspired from a local high school sports star, James Hobson. He studied at the University of Mississippi and was the starting quarterback at Ole Miss for three years.
After he completed his graduation at Ole Miss he was selected in the 1971 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He led the league in 1972 in pass attempts and completions and he also led the National Football Conference in passing yards. He was named the NFC Player of the Year by
UPI after leading the Saints to a 7-9 record in 1978.
In the same year he was also named All-NFC by both the UPI and The Sporting News. In 1978 and 1979 he was selected to the Pro Bowl. He concluded his career with Houston Oilers from 1982-1983, and the Minnesota Vikings from 1983-1984. After he completed 2,011 of 3,642 passes for 23,911 yards and 125 touchdowns, with 173 interceptions he ended his 13 year career. During his retirement his 2,011 completions were ranked 17th in NFL history.
