Antonio Canova (1757-1822) was an Italian Neo-Ciassical sculptor, based in Rome from 1781.
Short Biography:
He received commissions from popes, kings, and emperors for his highly finished marble portrait busts and groups. He made several portraits of Napoleon.
His reclining marble Pauline Borghese 1805-1807 (Borghese Gallery, Rome) is a fine example of cool, polished Classicism.
